SUMMARY:Euchre Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Hollow Games will be hosting a Euchre Tournament biweekly on Sundays at 5pm starting July 14th. Their store location is 201 S. Washington Street\, Owosso\, MI. This tournament will be played for cash prizes. Each team of 2 players will pay a $30 entry fee which will contribute to the winning pot. The winning pot will be divided amongst the first and second place teams. Each team will play in 3 games\, facing off against three different teams. The first team to 10 points will win each game. Tournament winners will be determined by the number of games won at the end of the bracket and ties will be decided by the number of points won in the game. \nRules: To keep things moving\, if each player passes on calling suit\, the dealer will choose the trump suit.After each game\, one player from each team will report the number of points their team had scored during the game.If the number of teams is not even\, the team which sits out will be given a “bye” which counts as a win.A card laid is a card played\, once a card is set on the table\, it is in play and cannot be switched.Euchre will not allow for any house rules such as “Farmer’s Hand”Any player who is caught not following suit while they have a suit card in hand or conducting in any table talk including code words will result in a loss for their team for that round. On a second violation\, their team will be disqualified.Points for tricks will go as follows:Maker wins 3 or 4 tricks: 1 pointMaker wins 5 Tricks: 2 pointsMaker goes alone\, wins 3 or 4 tricks: 1 pointMaker goes alone\, wins 5 tricks: 4 pointsDefenders win greater than 2 tricks: 2 pointsTo preregister\, feel free to call or message the store at anytime (810) 350-9269 with the names of your team members. SUMMARY:Shiawassee Arts Center's "Meet The Artist" Event!
DESCRIPTION:The Shiawassee Arts Center opens a new exhibit featuring artwork by Anthony Cairo of Lansing\, Lisabeth Curnow of Holt\, and the 2b Photographers Group of Lansing. The exhibit\, which runs July 9 through August 25\, is sponsored by Mrs. Edgar Brown. The public is welcome to attend the ‘Meet the Artists’ reception Friday\, July 12\, 5-7pm \n  \nAnthony M. Cairo\, a traditional artist living in Lansing\, Michigan\, received his BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design in 2015 with a focus on drawing. After graduating he apprenticed under the Michigan Capitol Master Decorative Artist in 2017\, learning traditional oil painting techniques. Today he works as the lead Decorative painter at the Michigan State Capitol\, and a nationally awarded landscape painter. His work has been featured in Southwest Art and Plein Air magazine. He explains\, “The complex and endless beauty of the natural world is my greatest influence. I still find magic in these spaces\, and they have become my greatest teacher. As a Michigander\, my love of plein air painting\, backcountry backpacking\, and quiet areas without human traces provide regular sources of inspiration. \n  \nLisabeth Curnow\, an award winning watercolor artist and instructor\, is president of the Mid Michigan Art Guild (MMAG)\, active member of Lansing Women Artist Collective (LWAC) and Great Lakes Plein Air Painters Association(GLPAPA). Her work has been included in exhibits throughout Michigan\, including the Mackinac IsLand Art Museum\, Crooked Tree Gallery Traverses City\, and number Mid Michigan Galleries. \n  \n2B Photographers\, a special interest group of the Michigan Garden Clubs District 2B\, was launched by Sue Wittick in February\, 2018\, for garden club members to develop skills\, practice techniques\, display their work\, share ideas\, and critique images related to photography. The group meets monthly September through May. Currently\, the group is facilitated by Melinda Pope\, who states\, “As photographers who are also gardeners\, we strive to show nature in colorful and creative ways. Our photos convey our deep appreciation for the botanical. Creatures of the garden are often found in our images. Photography allows us the immediacy of the moment and the excitement of a new bloom or a new day”.
