About Bobby Streng…
When not leading or co-leading his own jazz fusion groups such as Liquid Street, the House Big Band, Saxomble, or the Bobby Streng Group, he can be heard as a member of Walter White and Small Medium at Large, the Paul Keller Orchestra, and as a freelance musician around Detroit and the Midwest. Since 2007, Bobby has enjoyed the privilege of traveling nationally and internationally with the Harry James Orchestra led by trumpeter Fred Radke. This has included multiple tours of the US and Canada, a trip to South America, two consecutive performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival (2009 and 2010), and two double bill tours with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In addition to his work with HJO, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra featured Bobby in the lead alto role of Jimmy Dorsey on a 31 concert tour across the US in 2009. He has also performed with Motown legends like The Temptations, The Four Tops, and The O’Jays.
In the classical music realm, Bobby recorded under Maestro Lenard Slatkin on William Bolcom’s Songs of Innocence and Exerience which earned the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Classical Recording. He is a former member of the Larry Teal Saxophone Quartet, was a concerto competition winner at the University of Michigan, and performs with Taiwanese marimba virtuoso Isabelle Huang in the Jazoe Duo. This past year, Bobby performed a concerto grosso with the San Louis Potosi Symphony Orchestra (Mexico) with the Toledo based quartet Sax Fourth Avenue and gave a series of master classes at Universities in Taiwan.
Bobby holds a bachelors degree from the University of Dayton and a masters from the University of Michigan where he studied with the renowned saxophonist Donald Sinta.
About Special Guest Takashi lio…
Takashi lio is an electric/upright bassist from Detroit. When he was in high school he was picked to be in the All-State Jazz Band. That lead to a full talent scholarship to Wayne State University where he studied Jazz, Latin & Classical music. He is a full time performer that has toured with The Contours feating Sylvester Potts, working as a featured recording session player for a Grammy nominated producer, Nate Harasim. Recording sessions for a Hollywood movie production (“Hit & Run”) & performing on the Ellen Degeneres Show. Playing theatre shows at prestigious venues as a contract bass player, etc. His versatility makes him one of the most sought after bass players in the Detroit area.
