Marvin’s Room
Marvin’s Room tells the story of Bessie, who takes care of her bedridden father and has done so for a long time. When Bessie discovers she has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, she reaches out to her estranged sister Lee, who hasn’t spoken to them in 20 years. Lee must now decide how she will deal with the predicament of whether or not to come home.
Originally written by Scott McPherson and first performed in 1990, Marvin’s Room is a story about illness, connection, and most of all, family.
